Oral Examination

Comprehensive oral examinations are a part of preventive dentistry where we focus on thorough evaluation and detection of oral and dental health issues at an early stage. Every oral exam involves a detailed examination of your teeth, gums and other oral structures. Regular oral examinations are recommended at all stages of life and can help prevent extensive, costly dental problems, such as cavities, gum disease, root canals and even tooth loss. These exams are also crucial in effective treatment planning.

Oral Cancer Examination

Oral cancer can develop anywhere in your mouth. Common areas include the lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, the palate or throat. Periodic oral cancer examination can help determine if you are susceptible to the disease as well as facilitate its early detection and treatment. In fact, early detection is a key factor in improving treatment outcomes.

Periodontal Examination & Treatment

A full-mouth periodontal examination is part of a comprehensive oral exam and is also recommended if signs of gum disease are observed during regular oral check-ups. This examination is relatively simple and painless that helps us accurately diagnose the extent or severity of the periodontal disease. This precise diagnosis is then used to develop a long-term treatment plan with predictable outcomes.

Tooth Examination

Every tooth matters. During a tooth examination, we meticulously check tooth enamel and roots, looking for signs of tooth decay or cavities. Tooth examinations are also helpful in uncovering the cause of sensitive teeth. If you have had restorations, we also check the fillings, crowns, bridges to rule out potential problems.

BITE

Biting, Chewing & Grinding Check

Normal activities like biting, chewing, and certain habits such as grinding can cause damage if the teeth or jaws are not correctly aligned. Bite problems, such as overbite, crossbite, underbite, and open bite, are not always noticeable and require a dental checkup. Our dentists can identify if something in your mouth isn’t right and can prescribe suitable correction options to help you achieve a balanced bite and help correct and prevent teeth damage from parafunctional habits like grinding.

Dental Cleaning

Regular dental cleaning can help protect your teeth from decay, preserving strength. Cleanings using professional tools also remove deposits that have accumulated, helping keep your gums healthy. It also lessens the need for expensive restorative or cosmetic dentistry in the future and helps prevent tooth loss from periodontal deterioration. People who build up tartar quickly, have gum disease or type-2 diabetes may need it more often. Our hygienist can help determine the right frequency for your needs.

XRAY

X-Ray

These images capture details of your mouth’s structures, helping diagnose tooth decay, cavities between teeth, bone loss related to gum disease, infection, impacted wisdom teeth and other abnormalities. Your overall dental health and history will set the frequency of your x-ray check-ups. Your radiation safety is important to us.

Preventive Dentistry

It is common knowledge that most dental issues arise due to poor dental care. Tooth decay, receding gums, foul breath, and many other dental problems result from making poor dietary choices and from not following a proper dental care routine. At Pape Dental Centre, we encourage individuals of all ages to take steps toward improving and maintaining optimal oral and dental health. Our preventive dental services involve one-on-one consultations, periodic dental examinations, and nutritional/dietary counselling. We also offer dental sealants to help prevent cavities in children.

Children’s Dentistry

Just like grown-ups, your kids and even toddlers also require dental checkups and cleanings done periodically. Professional pediatric dental care is required to help keep baby teeth healthy and helps ensure the development of healthy and strong adult teeth as your child grows. We focus on prevention and detect problems at an early stage, providing suitable treatment.

Dentures

Complete (full) dentures are removable and are made when the patient has no existing teeth. Partial dentures can be made when the patient has some existing, healthy, natural teeth to support the denture. Both full and partial dentures are removable prosthodontic appliances that replace lost or missing teeth. Dentures are, sometimes, the best option for replacing missing teeth because they are non-invasive. Trust us to offer high-quality complete and partial dentures. Repairs and relining of your existing dentures can also be done at Pape Dental Centre.

Oral Surgery

Teeth can be extensively decayed and “broken down” to a point where they are not restorable, not salvageable, and hence need to be extracted. In other situations, teeth may have lost a significant amount of their surrounding supporting tissue (bone loss and soft tissue attachment), and they would have developed very deep periodontal pockets. These teeth are often mobile at this stage, not salvageable and therefore need to be extracted. Wisdom teeth do not always need to be removed, but sometimes it is required. Such cases include the presence of infection and impaction (mal-positioned for eruption and the potential for infection, adjacent tooth damage etc...) as well as the presence of significant decay and consistently very poor oral hygiene in the area. We offer sedation with the services of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon where needed.

Periodontics

This area of dentistry involves all of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the diseases affecting the surrounding tissues (gingiva, bone, etc.) of the teeth (or implants) that actually support the teeth.  This branch of dentistry is equally important to caring for the teeth themselves, just as important as the prevention of decay. Scaling (cleaning) of the teeth at appropriately set intervals along with good home care is very important for the prevention of diseases affecting the gums and helping to achieve and maintain good oral health. Sometimes, excessive breakdown of soft tissue (developing deep pockets) and significant bone loss require further intervention to help prevent tooth loss. Good oral hygiene and good dietary habits are essential to maintaining optimal oral health.

Pape Dental Centre is your one-stop source for professional periodontic solutions. From gingivitis to moderate and advanced periodontitis that includes extensive bone and tissue loss, we help you with all your dental concerns. Our customized gum treatment and therapy help prevent periodontal disease and allow you to enjoy a youthful, infection-free, healthy smile.
